The Youth Advisory Board (YAB), initiated
by D.A.R.E. America in 2000 is composed of 50
members--one student per State in the United States.
Students are selected through a state-wide search.
The YAB gives
D.A.R.E. graduates an opportunity to speak to issues
impacting the national and worldwide D.A.R.E. program
and to advise D.A.R.E. America and local D.A.R.E.
programs, government and community leaders on drug and
violence prevention strategies beneficial to our youth |

Illinois Representative

My name is Cait Bulthuis. I’m 16
years old and a sophomore at Plainfield North High School in Plainfield,
IL. I’m in the honors program and I’m enjoying my high school experience
by getting involved in extracurricular activities and school sports. I
am a goalkeeper for our Plainfield North High School Girls’ Soccer Team
as well as a goalkeeper for my traveling soccer team, the Naperville
Galaxy. Soccer has been a part of my life since I was only four years
old. I have learned a lot about life through my participation in sports
and the growth of my understanding of team values. I’m honored to have
received the opportunity to represent Illinois on the D.A.R.E. Youth
Advisory Board. Having family members dedicated to law enforcement, I
learned from them at young age that drugs, alcohol, and poor decisions
lead people down a dark path. I hope my time spent on the Youth
Advisory Board will afford me the opportunity to positively impact my
peers and other youth toward a healthy, drug free, non-violent approach
to life.

YAB Mission Statement
We serve to provide youthful input
and insight to D.A.R.E. America as it strives to enhance
the D.A.R.E. program for the young people of the world.
We do this as a body representing all drug and violence
free youth from the fifty states of the Union .
We will work independently, and as a
united body, to help others resist the pressure to
become involved in drugs and violence. We will always
remain true to our pledge to be positive role models
through our personal commitment to a drug and violence
free life.
We will be committed leaders within
our states and communities as we interact with others to
promote awareness of, participation in, and involvement
with the D.A.R.E. Program. We will always remember that
we represent millions of young people from across the
country who also strive to remain drug and violence
free, and we will always speak out to champion the
values that D.A.R.E. America represents. |
